Heart to Heart

I belong to a pretty neat quilting group called Washington State Internet Quilters. Every once in awhile someone will post a request for heart blocks or flower blocks to make a comfort quilt for someone who is going through a rough time.

My friend Daisy requested blocks for her sister who is going through cancer treatments. This is the quilt all finished. My donated heart block is 2nd from the bottom in the middle, blue swirly looking one. I think it turned out beautiful!

How Charming...

I was browsing Etsy.com (I love that place) and I came across a crafter who was selling wine charms as wedding favors. I thought, those would be pretty neat to have on each wine glass when guests arrive to my wedding, they could choose one and know which glass is theirs through the day!

Short story, I figured I could make my own! and so off I went to the craft store, 40% off coupon in hand and spent a good few hours searching for the perfect beads and charms.

I found some ceramic beads in greens & blues and then found some little charms in complementary colors. I've never done any sort of beading but this was fun!

Once I got to making these, it went pretty quickly and before I knew it, I had a collection of unique wine charms made up for the wedding!

My Cute Stocking!

Isn't this just the Cutest stocking? I belong to an online group on WA State quilters and this year I participated in a Santa Stocking exchange. This one I got from my Secret Santa was made from recycled blue jeans. It was sewn shut across the top so I couldn't peek until Christmas morning!

So much fun to have a stocking to dig through! It was chocked full of fun little quilt themed gifts. A sweet table runner in yellows with tea pots, a recycled jean purse, scissors, thread, pottery cup and a magazine.. fun, fun! I look forward to participating again next year!

She's making cards again!

If you read my other blog (tad-n-tina) then you would have read about my adventures during the local spring home tour. I took pics and decided to make each homeowner a thank you card. I think they turned out so nice! I hope they like them!

:o)

A few of my Favorite quilts...

I thought I'd take a few pics of a few of my favorite quilts.. The first one (photo above) was made for me by my best friend Mardi. It's a tied lap quilt made with flannels. I took this one with me all the way to Mexico. Boy! Did it come in handy on those cold nights out sailing from one destination to another. Now it's on my couch! Where it stays...

The next one (below) is one I made for my daughter's hope chest. It was a collaboration of my local quilt guild, called a round robin. I made the center, then each person involved added a border around in complimentary fabrics. I learned so much by doing this quilt! It sure turned out precious ..

Last but certainly not least is a quilt my grandmother hand pieced and quilted. She made this when I was a young girl. It is made from scraps of fabric that used to be my aunt's dresses.

She gifted it to me when I first married. I love it because I remember it laying on my grandparents bed after she first made it, she was just so proud of it. Rightfully so, it is beautiful. She made me promise to use the quilt and not just keep it tucked away .. I use mine and both of my children also have quilts from her that are well loved.

Thanks Grandma - you inspire me to be a better mother, partner, woman and seamstress! I Love You!

A Year Already?

Wow .. it's been a whole year since I started this second blog and I haven't done much with it. Maybe it's because most of the past year has been focused on other people instead of feeding my crafty self. Anyhow, I thought about deleting it but I am finding that I again have some time to do some art. My future 'studio' was taken over by a teen for awhile but it will be mine again soon -*dream*- and I will be creating a new space for my crafting & quilting :o)

Onward HaikuSailor!!
